Our Work Is Our Worship

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.

It is the Lord Christ you are serving." — Colossians 3:23–24

Smiling blonde woman in a green top sits at an Apple laptop in a warm, softly lit office or cafe with string lights overhead.

Sometimes I just get tired.

Tired from pouring out.

Tired from holding space.

Tired from showing up and wondering…what exactly is all of this for?

I heard a sermon today that shifted something in me.

It was rooted in that scripture from above, and the pastor said something like this:

When our work becomes our worship, we actually find rest in it.

It’s not later, once we’ve earned the rest.

But right in the middle of the doing.

And that flipped something in my thinking.

I realized I attempt to measure everything:

How many women I help.

How many hours I "should" be at the office.

How many days I can go before I "deserve" a break.

I’ve been chasing rest like it’s a finish line.

But that’s a worldly way of thinking.

A striving way.

A self-reliant way.

And I know better.

I know that when I place my life, my time, my calling, everything, in the hands of the One who created me, I don’t have to make space to collapse.

Because,

He is the space.

He is the rest.

When I bring Him into all of it, my meetings, my car rides, the texts I send, the conversations with women trying to stay sober one more day, it somehow stops being just work.

It becomes worship.

It becomes holy.

And somehow, even if nothing on the outside changes,

even if the schedule is still full or I don’t get a nap or the to-do list still waits…

something inside me rests.

Because I’m not doing this for applause. I’m not doing it for numbers or Instagram followers or someone to tell me I did a good job.

I’m doing it because of a calling… I’m doing it with my Creator.

And that is enough.

So today, I’m reminding myself:

I don’t need to earn rest.

I need to stay close to the One who gives it.

And trust that if I keep showing up with a willing heart,

He’ll give me exactly what I need, when I need it.

Even if it doesn’t look like a break on a calendar.

Even if it just looks like peace in the middle of the doing.

It’s all His anyway.

So I’ll keep showing up.

And I’ll rest in Him as I go.
